PUTRAJAYA, July 3 (Bernama) — Low-cost airline, AirAsia, has only a month left to move its operations from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). Contacted by Bernama, AirAsia staff at KKIA said they were still waiting for a directive from the airline on their move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1.
On Wednesday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Terminal 1 had been upgraded and was ready to accept passengers from Terminal 2. “Terminal 2 was built as a temporary terminal while waiting for the renovation works at Terminal 1 to be completed,” Liow said in reply to questions by senators Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Abdul Samad and Chandra Mohan S. Thambirajah at the Dewan Negara here today.
He said AirAsia has already been instructed to move to Terminal 1 together with the Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and other related departments. On the issue, an AirAsia and AirAsia X corporate communication officer, said in an e-mail to Bernama: “We are not able to participate in this story.”
