Interesting Places in Kundasang and Ranau

Kundasang is about 90Km-100Km away from Kota Kinabalu City (KK) and takes approximately 2 hours land journey. With an elevation of about 2,000 metres above sea level, it is one of the coolest places in Sabah with temperatures dropping to 13ºC at night. Besides being within close proximity to Mount Kinabalu National Park, Kundasang itself has grown into a popular leisure destination with many resorts in the vicinity.  kinabalu-national-park Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site. The main attraction is the majestic Mount Kinabalu, one of the highest mountains in South East Asia standing at 4095.2 metres.

Getting there : About 1½ hours from KK City
Recommendation : Depart early as 07.30am to catch view of Mt Kinabalu or stay overnight

 canopy-poring Poring is known for its hot springs and one of popular tourist spot. The springs are known for their therapeutic properties and the waters with their sulphuric minerals are reputed to ease aching muscles. The baths are favoured by returned climbers of Mount Kinabalu.

Getting there : About 30 minutes from Kinabalu National Park.
Recommendation : Dip into hot spring pool & challenge yourself across Canopy Walkway

 desa-cattle-dairy-farm Desa Cattle is a cattle farm and located at the  foothill of Mount Kinabalu, Desa Cattle Dairy Farm offers one of the most amazing scenery one could envision.

Getting there : About 20 minutes from Kinabalu National Park.
Recommendation : Visit in the morning get a wonderful pictures of Mt. Kinabalu. Don’t forget give a try Desa Milk and Ice Cream.

 tagal-moroli-luanti The word ‘tagal’ in the local kadazan-dusun dialect means ‘no fishing’. The main purpose of ‘tagal’ is to preserve the environment as well as the ecosystem of the river for the benefit of the generations to come.

Getting there : About 30 minutes from Kinabalu National Park.
Recommendation : You may be tickled when the fishes touch your feet, do not shout 🙂

 kundasang-war-memorial Established in 1962, this was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian and British Prisoners of War who died in Sandakan and during the infamous death marches to Ranau during World War II. The memorial also remembers the people of North Borneo who risked their lives to help the POWs.

Getting there : About 2 hours from KK City
Recommendation : Take pictures as much as you can in these beautiful gardens.

sabah-tea The Sabah Tea Garden is a sprawling tea plantation which is surrounded by lush greenery of never-ending rainforests in the cool mountain air. This is the place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

Getting there : About 30 minutes from Kinabalu National Park.
Recommendation : Some activities you can do are take pictures in the middle of tea farm, try a cup of Organic Tea & visit Tea Factory.

PEKAN NABALU (Nabalu market)

 pekan-nabalu-market Pekan Nabalu is a small town located 12Km before Kinabalu National Park. People will stop here to take some rest before continue the journey. This place quite known with local handicraft and t-shirt.

Getting there : About 1½ hours from KK city
Recommendation : There is a platform at the edge of this town to view Mt Kinabalu.

PEKAN KUNDASANG (Kundasang Market)

 kundasang-market Kundasang is located about 6 kilometres away from Kinabalu National Park and is renowned for its vegetable market.

Getting there : About 2 hours from KK city
Recommendation : Buy fresh vegetables, fruits, flower.

Onroute to Kundasang, we will pass Tamparuli, there a attraction place known as Rumah Terbalik.

RUMAH TERBALIK (The Upside-Down House)

 rumah-terbalik The first upside-down house in Malaysia. You will be able to view a traditional Sabah kampung house fully equipped with kitchen, living room, bedrooms, toilet, veranda and garden in a new perspective – upside down!

Getting there : About 1 hour from KK City
Recommendation : 3D Wonder Museum
